Midtown & Downtown bicycle suitability map

midtown downtown bike plan.bmp

Now updated! The attached bicycle suitability map, developed by ABC in with input from cyclists and the Midtown Transportation Solutions and the Downtown TMA, is without a doubt our most popular map. Streets are rated according to how bike-friendly they are and color-coded: red (least bikeable), yellow (fine for the moderately experienced cyclist) and green (bike-friendly).

Existing bicycle facilities (lanes, sidepaths and multi-use trails): Atlanta and DeKalb

existing facilities map.JPG

Last fall, Atlanta Regional Commission Transportation Division intern Lyuba completed an inventory of bicycle facilities across the region. This year, as Lyuba rejoins the ARC as the new bike/ped coordinator, we'd like to share that map with you in hopes of spurring Atlanta and DeKalb to greater investments in bicycle infrastructure. Please read more to check out the map.

Where to park your bike (racks) and where to use caution (thefts)

bike theft chart + stats.JPG

In December of 2007, ABC volunteers fanned out across the city to hunt down and assess bicycle racks. Below is a map of the results, completed with GIS volunteer expertise from Jeff and Lyuba. In addition to the bike racks, indicated by the green bikes, this map also features a layer showing the locations of stolen bikes reported during 2007-2008 (through October), indicated by the red markers. While we know stolen bikes tend to be greatly under-reported, it's interesting to see where the reported thefts took place. The concentration in the northeast quadrant of the city likely indicates the presence of an active cycling population that is more likely to report bike thefts to the police.

ABC Fun Ride basic route map

This is the basic route for the monthly ABC Fun Ride compliments of Bikely (see the embedded map below), designed for beginning cyclists, those new to group riding, or the cyclist who is looking for a socially oriented jaunt through Atlanta's intown neighborhoods. This is a slow-paced ride - averaging around 10 mph - around 10 to 12 miles in length. Expect variations every now and then to visit different parts of town.

Big Creek Greenway - Alpharetta

This concrete multi-use trail, about 6.15 miles long, runs the length of the Big Creek Greenway linear park which borders Big Creek and parallels North Point Parkway, from Webb Bridge Road on the north end to Mansell

Emory area bicycle suitability map

Greater Emory area bicycle suitability map cover

The Clifton Corridor TMA, Emory University, and the Clean Air Campaign worked with ABC to develop the attached bicycle suitability map of the greater Emory Area. The PDF is appropriate for online viewing and compact hardcopies are available at the ABC office or one of our public event tables.

Trip Planner

A-Train Trip Planner

Probably the best online resource for planning a route by bike in the city of Atlanta - especially one combined with public transit - is the Atlanta Transit Rider's Advocacy & Information Network's A-Train Trip Planner, presented by ABC partner, Citizens for Progressive Transit.
