Annual Goals and Priorities
2010
1. Set out on path towards a Bike-Friendly City of Atlanta!
- Convince city of Atlanta and other metro Atlanta cities to designate bicycle coordinators.
- Work with city of Atlanta to prioritize implementation of the Connect Atlanta Bike Network.
Goal: 15 miles per year. (Achieved - city to implement 15-20 miles in 2010.) - Establish goal for % of trips by bike to achieve by 2015.
- Adopt education and/or bike awareness program with city of Atlanta. (In progress: sharrows awareness campaign)
2) Establish Starter Bikes program
- Sell bikes at or near cost to provide low-cost transportation option for low income commuters and students. (Achieved)
- Designate Starter Bikes coordinator (Achieved)
- Develop group of regular volunteers (Achieved but more are needed)
3) Launch ciclovia project (Atlanta Streets Alive)
- Hold two ciclovias in 2010 and four in 2011. (In progress - 1st ciclovia on May 23, fall ciclovia in planning stages)
- At least 3,000 participate (Achieved - nearly 6,000 attended first Atlanta Streets Alive)
2008-2009
Advocacy
- 3 Feet Safe Passing law for Georgia
- Hold Forum on Connect Atlanta proposed Bicycle Network
- Work with Atlanta City Council and state legislature to pass Connect
Atlanta Bicycle Network along with dedicated funding for trunk of system - Rid city of dangerous parallel grates
- Rid city of dangerous out of use railroad crossings
Organization
- 1,000 members by 2009
- BeltLine Bike Tour launch
- Move to new office space
- Create new ABC Website 2.0: atlantabike2.org
- Rebrand Effective Cycling as Confident City Cycling
- Achieve greater awareness of organization and higher media profile
